Beechworth is an elegant 19th century town in country Victoria, Australia. There is more to town than food however, and one of the most popular activities among tourists and visitors is gold panning at Sebastopol Park. During the gold rush in the 19th century this was a popular site for people from all around the world to try their luck. The location also has strong historical importance as a place that Australian bushranger Ned Kelly tried to outrun the cops.

In town there is the historical area that is filled with buildings from the colonial and gold mining period of the 19th century. You can purchase a ticket to visit all the historical buildings which include: police stables and lock up, the town hall, Robert O’Hara museum, Courthouse, Telegraph Station, Gold Warden’s Office, Chinese Protectors Office and Gold Office.

Outside of town you can also venture into the historic hills to enjoy bushwalking and hiking in stunning Australian landscapes that are touched by history.
