5. The Empire State Building

Head to the top of the Empire State Building on a clear day and you will be rewarded with a stunning view of all the surrounding states. This is New York’s tallest building and is also one of the world’s most recognizable structures. It has appeared in several well known movies. Adorned with red and green lights for the holidays, the top of the Empire State Building also has various look-out points and binoculars for visitors to use. Admission to the building is $19 for adults, $2 less for those with a military identification, and discounts can often be found through AAA, in entertainment books, and newspapers. You can also buy tickets in the building’s lobby, but because this is one of the city’s most popular attractions, be prepared to wait in line many times during the year.

Beechworth, Australia is one of the most interesting and fascinating places to visit in Australia. It’s history goes back to the 1800’s when gold was discovered in this region. Aboriginal Clans who are no longer in existence originally occupied the area. Chinese who came to the area have left their mark, which is shown in the town’s restoration.

When gold was discovered in 1852 the area immediately became known as a place to strike it rich and created an influx of people from every lifestyle. In 1853, wishing to make the area identifiable to the world, the residents decided to name this town Beechworth. These original pioneers included the Chinese whose presence is noted in restored areas. They had their own Jade House and community during those times.

Visitors selecting this destination today are privileged to view a restored version of the original town. Granite curbs, Victorian houses, shaded streets make one feel that they are back in that era. In addition, some original gold diggings and other buildings are available for exploration. A goal, built between 1859 and 1864 is present and is still in use by the residents.

The town can be reached by driving, taking a bus or train or by flying into the nearby airport of Albury. Rental cars or taxis are available there for traveling on to Beechworth. This town is unique in that it has been restored in a 19th century theme and is an experience that one will not soon forget.

The Gold Coast of Queensland is a place known for its spectacular beaches. About seventy kilometers of sand and sun are the reason why, along with warm water for any day you’d like to go for a swim. Beach breaks around Kirra and Surfers Paradise are famous for a reason. Besides that, you’ve got more hidden gems like Tugan, Mermaid, Main Beach, Miami and Nobby’s Beach. It’s not all about point breaks. These fine beach breaks give the surfer lots of fun rides which sit empty for many days of every season.

Tanning and Swimming

The Gold Coast is blessed with a climate that not only permits terrific tanning all year round, but the water temperature is rarely below cozy. Maybe in the winter it gets a little chilly, but even that’s just before noon. It is quite rare to see no tanners out, even in July or August, the peak of the Australian winter. Normally there are people out on every day of the year, with typical temperatures between twenty and twenty-four degrees in wintertime.

As for the water, it’s so pleasant you can even take a swim most nights on the Gold Coast! The air was much more of a threat to my comfort level when I jump out of the water one night and run back to the car.

Considering there are about ten to twenty meters of sand from ocean to street on almost every Gold Coast beach, the tanning, surfing, swimming, running and kite surfing are truly a pleasure. Usually, there are spots for picnics, barbecuing or a little beach volleyball, too. It’s not surprising that the beaches are one of the biggest tourist attractions themselves.
