Understand How Temperature Ratings Use Camping Sleeping Bags
Let’s face it; not many holiday activities are as exciting as camping, and of course it can be even more of a thrill if you go into the mountains, or into the forest as part of a large group. As many of us have discovered, stories and tales heard around in a campfire usually remain with you until the end of your days. Apart from a good tent, camping sleeping bags are the next most important things to have with you. Of course the type of sleeping bag you choose will depend mostly on the type of weather you expect to have while you’re away. Generally speaking, camping sleeping bags fall into different categories depending on various things such as durability and reliability in different weather conditions. The category into which a sleeping bag falls depends on its temperature rating.
Comfortable temperature rating refers to the range of temperature a person may sleep in sleeping bag comfortably. Extreme temperature rating refers to the lowest temperatures in which the sleeping bag can be used before it becomes ineffective. These temperature ratings should not be taken at face value. They only provide a guide to the user when buying the bag.
A camping mat should also be included as part of your camping stuff. A camping mat helps to insulate the camper from the cold hard ground enabling him/her to sleep soundly. Irrespective of how low your camping sleeping bags are rated, you will not sleep warm without a camping mat.
Many people spend so much time fussing over their camping stuff that they forget all about the importance of taking the correct clothing. Don’t forget, one usually goes camping off the beaten track, and you can never be 100% certain what the weather holds in store for you. With that in mind, it’s always advisable to take some warm clothing with your, and of course you need to make absolutely certain your clothes remain dry.
As suggested earlier, one always needs to factor in the weather when you’re heading out camping. If the weather is warm and calm, you’ll be warmer in camping sleeping bags rated at 10F, then if you were sleeping in bags rated at 40F in an area where there was a strong wind blowing. Let’s just say it’s better to be safe, rather than sorry. Lastly, because micro-fiber shelled sleeping bags are the most effective at keeping the cold out, these are the ones you should opt for.
Damp air is a far better conductor of heat than dry air. What this means is that when the weather is very dry, camping sleeping bags with a temperature reading of 35F will for the most part be suitable, but if the humidity is high, you’d probably find such sleeping bags to be inadequate. The point here is that you always take humidity into consideration as well.
Interestingly enough, men are more tolerant to low temperatures than what women are, and even between men, some can withstand colder temperatures than others. In other words, one should also take their personal tolerance level into consideration when purchasing a sleeping bag. As mentioned before, the temperature ratings on camping sleeping bags are only there to act as a guide.
Make sure the bag fits you comfortably. Also, look at the draft flaps and the hood and ensure that they have no holes, which may facilitate heat loss. It is advisable to buy or rent camping sleeping bags from reputable dealers to be sure of their quality. Also, read client reviews before you purchase or rent the camping stuff.

Beach Vacations: San Elijo Beach Camping In San Diego
San Elijo Campground in North County San Diego is the perfect spot for families or travelers visiting San Diego who are on a budget or want to sleep in the ocean air.
The campground has a store, surfboard rentals and a surf school, it also has a taco shop. Additionally, the quaint beach town Cardiff-by-the-Sea is just a crosswalk away from the campground. Traveling with your dog? There is a bar right outside the campground called The Office, which allows pets.
The San Elijo State Beach Campground, which is partially set on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is great place for any traveler looking to swim, sunbath or take long walks on the beach. One negative to the campground is its location to the railroad tracks. The commuter train runs regularly until 1 a.m. through Cardiff and past the campground, and due to an intersection, the train has to blow its horn. One way to muffle the sound is to try to camp closer to the ocean.
Camping at San Elijo State Beach is an affordable way to travel to San Diego on a budget. Here is the price list: $35/inland site; $50/ocean site; $20 a day for electricity (not all sites have hookups); $12 a day for an additional car (yes a trailer is a car), showers $1 for 3 minutes. The campground fills up during summer, spring break and holidays, so reservations are required. Winter months are slower and the campground rarely fills up.
If you reserve your site online and want an inland spot, I recommend getting on in the middle as opposed to a spot against the fence. The back sites are closer to the highway and train tracks, so being in the middle helps to buffer the sound while giving you a more authentic camping experience.
Of the San Diego State Beach campgrounds, I believe San Elijo is the most social. There seems to be more kids and younger families as well as more people just hanging out by the barbecue.

Tired Of Cookiecutter Resorts Consider Maine for Your Next Getaway
Folks seeking outdoors family fun, for example deep sea in addition to fly fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking and swimming, will find it hard to do better than the Pine Tree State. Reported by Maine’s Office of Tourism (found on the World Wide Web at http://www.VisitMaine.com/) the state’s lakes and streams include “more wild brook trout waters than all the other states within the eastern range of the Appalachians combined” and that does not account for the ocean which can be found next door.
As an example,, there are numerous reports of fishermen reeling in lake trout weighing in at as much as twenty pounds. In case your ambitions aren’t quite so grand, Maine’s waters have an rich supply of landlocked salmon located in the eight to ten pound range, in addition to small-mouth bass, pickerel and white perch. The majority of Maine’s prime fishing waters, regardless of whether on lakes, rivers and streams in the interior or located on the Pine Tree State’s rough Atlantic coast, are effortlessly within reach from waterside cabin rentals throughout the region.
Many of these water’s edge vacation rentals, such as Rideout’s Lodge found on the shoreline of East Grand Lake close to Weston (http://www.rideouts.com/maine-fishing.html) offer fishing guides for a nominal price. This particular lodge, which is quite traditional among Maine vacation rentals, has been in business since the late 1940s, and features the rustic style of scenery you’d expect. People have the option of a larger, lake side cottage while couples usually prefer the cozier units closer towards the main lodge -which include romantic lakeside views. Families can get some exceptional offers at Rideout throughout the off-season, which is late summer (August and September).
By the way, Maine’s family fun just isn’t confined to the warm weather months. Situated in the central region of the state in Brownville is Dillion’s Gunsmoke Lodge, which carries a great deal in common with a Maine Country Inn (http://gunsmokelodge.com/) This is a superb base from which to enjoy Maine’s wintertime activities such as ice fishing, snowshoeing as well as nordic (cross-country) skiing. This place offers hunting packages also, and therefore three meals daily are included with the price of lodging.
Maine romantic travel inns are the usual preference for people who visit the southern Maine shoreline along with its old-fashioned seaside villages which obviously are fantastic destinations to lodge while checking out some of the deep sea fishing that is offered. One holiday rental that is worth investigating is the Blue Crab Cottage, situated in the coastal town of Old Orchard Beach located on the south end of Saco Bay. This wonderful lodge is convenient to Ferry Beach State Park, the ideal area used for family fun offering hiking trails, bicycling paths and numerous attractions in town. One can find out more regarding the Blue Crab Cottage along with other Maine cabin rentals by going to “http://oldorchardbeachlodging.com/” found on the World Wide Web.

Why Bass Fishing Is A Real Sports
If you think bass fishing is nothing more than just a hobby or a skill you need to put food on the table, then you might be very wrong. It was an essential skill before, but currently many more are picking up bass fishing as a sport and are entering various competitions that promise high payouts in prizes for the winner. As such, it is no surprise that bass fishing have gain popularity across the world of late, whether in those watching it or participating, because after all, how difficult can bass fishing gets?
One thing that bass fishing stands out from the others is that you are essentially competing against yourself, and when it comes to knowledge about your opponent, you are technically in the blind. There is no pinpointing as to who is your main threat to the competition is, as such there really are no standard set and as such your biggest enemy is actually yourself, or how you surpass your previous achievements and give the best you can. Much like any other form of gathering task, you will need to understand where your prey is, and in this case where these bass fishes are hiding in abundance before you can even formulate a strategy to catch them.
One of the most common mistakes committed is to think that all lures are essentially the same, when they are in fact very different from one another! This is exactly what singles out an individual who wins the competition or someone who just fish enough for dinner tonight. Understanding the usage of different lures in different scenario is the very first step you need to fish, and to eventually win the competition.
After your basic gear setup, you’ll need some specific set of casting skills because bass tends to lump and congregate in difficult areas such as fallen logs, cover in the water. Being able to aim and cast to a specific area is a skill easy to learn but difficult to master.
You will be very wrong to think that these skills are only required if you are planning to fish in a congregated area, because casting in open and clear water is more than just throwing the cast in, in which case you are only going to scare the fishes away. What you need to learn is how to cast further and retrieve your lure to where the fishes are and appearing natural to these fishes. In short, there is many elements that you will need to master if you want to be good at bass fishing.

How To Choose A Utah Ski Resort
Utah is a beautiful state but for many people it may not be their first choice when thinking of a vacation destination. What you may not know is that the scenery and landscape are really just the beginning for Utah! If you are an avid skier you will definitely appreciate the great snow Utah has to offer, but there is also a wide variety of off mountain activities and nightlife.
First and foremost, when planning for your next vacation, there are just a couple things you should take into account and they are location, location, location. Location is absolutely key whenever you are looking for a ski resort; obviously you want the resort to offer plenty of terrain, but you also want to make sure that there are many activities, shops, restaurants, and nightlife in the area as well.
One of the most popular ski resorts in North America is Deer Valley Resort located in Park City Utah. Deer Valley Resort receives its top resort ranking because of the variety of terrain, quality of runs and on-mountain services, as well as on-mountain dining options. The town of Park City also offers a wealth of off-mountain activities, shopping, restaurants, and bars all within a short shuttle ride from your Deer Valley accommodations.
Whether you are looking for exciting nightlife, some great food or even just some shopping; the Park City area and Deer Valley Resort make this a top destination for anyone. There are many options ranging from rowdy ski town bars, upscale dance clubs, fine dining restaurants, and many interesting boutiques that are unique to the area.
One of the greatest things about picking out a ski resort is that you can do it yourself. You do not have to rely on any travel agents as long as you have the internet, you should be able to find everything that you are looking for with just a little bit of research.
Honestly, when it boils down to price, you should remember that most things are negotiable. Remember that if you wait until the last minute you can usually find some fantastic deals; however, you absolutely run the risk of being limited to second tier options. If you are planning a trip in the near future you may just find that hotels and resorts are so happy to have your business they will offer their best deal right up front.
As you can probably tell by now, Utah is a great state for outdoor recreation. A ski vacation is definitely something you should try and Utah is a perfect place to plan one. If you are fortunate enough to vacation in Utah you will absolutely have a fantastic time!

St Croix, The US Virgin Islands
Saint Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, which lie 1730 miles east south east of Miami and 93 miles west of Puerto Rico. This sector of the Virgin Islands has belonged to the United States since 1917 when they were acquired from the Danish government for $25m in gold to protect American shores from German U-boat attack.
At the time, it was feared that Germany would subjugate the islands and construct submarine pens there in order to harass American supply shipping, which was essential to the allies in Europe during the First World War.
The US Virgin islands is a group of about 60 chiefly uninhabited islands, the four biggest of which are called St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. (By the way, ‘Saint’ is pronounced in the English manner). The Islands’ inhabitants, however, have other names for these four which are Twin City, Rock City, Love City and Small City respectively.
Christopher Columbus landed there on November 14th, 1493, but there is evidence of human habitation on the island going back to 5000 BC. In fact, the Arawaks and the Caribs made up the islands’ population, before the Europeans got there.
Possession of St Croix and the other Virgin Islands changed a lot over the following centuries, but it became infamous to many people as Santa Cruz, which is its Spanish name. As Santa Cruz, St Croix featured prominently in 17th and 18th century stories of pirates and buccaneers on the Spanish Main.
In fact, after Spain first took control of the island, it changed hands seven times; having been Spanish, British, French, Maltese, Dutch, Danish and now American. The residents of the US Virgin Islands are now US citizens and carry US passports. They also use the US dollar and US laws.
St Croix was an agricultural powerhouse in the Caribbean until the 1960′s when the local government decided it was time to industrialize. The island is now home to HOVENSA, one of the largest oil refineries in the world.
There is also a sizeable distillery, the Cruzan Rum Distillery, which used to make rum from sugar cane grown on the island. Sugar cane, or its extract, molasses are now imported from the Dominican Republic to make Southern Comfort and Cruzan Rum. Diageo is arranging to build a distillery there too in order to produce Captain Morgan Rum.
Residents of the island call themselves Crucians. However, there is a lot of debate about what constitutes a ‘real Crucian’. Many say that a Crucian is someone who was born and raised on St Croix, while others claim that descendants of the slaves that the Danes took over in 16th and 17th Centuries are the only true Crucians.
Many Crucians can track their ancestry back to Puerto Rico or other Virgin islands as the sugar cane industry attracted a lot of migrant workers in the 1930′s, 40′s and 50′s. There was also an influx of down-islanders (ie from other Caribbean islands), as the locals say, after the industrialization of St Croix in the US Virgin Islands in the 1960′s and 1970′s as tourism and petrol became more central to the economy.

The Virgin Islands Of The USA
The US Virgin Islands came into America’s possession in 1917 after Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to it for $25m in gold. At the time, the USA was worried that the Germans would gain control of the islands and use them as a base from which to launch attacks on America.
The status of the US Virgin Islands is one of an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States. This means the residents of the US Virgin Islands are US citizens, but cannot vote in US presidential elections. Therefore, US citizens do not need a passport to visit the US Virgin Islands.
The US Virgin Islands are part virgin Islands archipelago and are located in the Leeward islands of the Lesser Antilles along with the British Virgin Islands. The three main islands of this American territory are called Saint Croix, Saint John and Saint Thomas. There is also a much smaller island called Water Island. All together, there are about 60 islands with a total surface area of 133.73 square miles, although most of the islands are uninhabited.
The four main islands of the US Virgin Islands are known to their residents by nicknames. These are ‘Twin City’ (St. Croix); ‘Rock City’ (St. Thomas); ‘Love City’ (St. John) and ‘Small City’ (Water Island) and their total population was 108,612 in the 2000 census.
Since the 1960′s, the islands turned their focus from agriculture to heavy industry and tourism and the US Virgin Islands are a very popular destination for American tourists and honeymooners. It is very easy for Americans to get there because a passport is not required, the islands are only 1,730 miles east south-east of Miami, the currency is the US dollar and everybody speaks English.
The islands enjoy an arid, pleasant climate. The average temperature in the capital, Charlotte Amelie, is 33c in the summer and 30c in the winter. September to November are the wettest months and February and March are the driest. The USVI are subject to hurricanes. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 was particularly devastating, but the islands were also hit in 1998, 1999 and 2008.
Tourism is the industry that most of the islanders are engaged in and about 2,000,000 people visit every year, many of them on cruise liners. St Thomas and St Croix are the best equipped to deal with tourists offering hotels and resorts along with lovely beaches and fine restaurants. Water sports are the main activity, although tourists can also hire horses or jeeps to discover the interior of the US Virgin Islands.
