St. John Travel Information
If you are looking for a relaxing time in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and to immerse yourself in true, natural, unspoilt surroundings, then St. John stands out as the obvious choice. With around two-thirds of the Island designated as National Park, it is the most undeveloped and laid back of the large U.S. Virgin Islands. However, that is not to say that it is the ‘boring’ choice. There is plenty to do and see there if you are looking to spend a day away from one of its many stunning beaches.
As well as secluded, scenic beaches, you will also find the following…
- Awe-inspiring tropical forests
- Interesting ecological tours
- Exquisite dining
- Buzzing nightlife
Of special note, and something which should not be missed under any circumstances, is the Virgin Islands National Park. It includes hiking trails and a wonderful range of wildlife, some of which is unique to the Island. The beaches within it, which are open to the public, are some of the best to be found anywhere in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Staying in either Cruz Bay or Coral Bay, which are the two main towns on the Island, allows easy access to restaurants and shops. There are plenty of hotels and resorts to choose from, which range from the quaint to the exceedingly lavish. Making reservations early is always advisable as finding anywhere to stay at the last minute is normally impossible.
Lots of visitors to St. John find themselves returning there year after year, as they have been unable to find a destination that gives them everything that St. John does. If you are still in doubt as to whether it is the right destination for you, find some pictures of it. After seeing the beaches and the National Park, you will be left in no doubt that St. John really is the destination of your dreams.

The Virgin Islands Of The USA
The US Virgin Islands came into America’s possession in 1917 after Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to it for $25m in gold. At the time, the USA was worried that the Germans would gain control of the islands and use them as a base from which to launch attacks on America.
The status of the US Virgin Islands is one of an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States. This means the residents of the US Virgin Islands are US citizens, but cannot vote in US presidential elections. Therefore, US citizens do not need a passport to visit the US Virgin Islands.
The US Virgin Islands are part virgin Islands archipelago and are located in the Leeward islands of the Lesser Antilles along with the British Virgin Islands. The three main islands of this American territory are called Saint Croix, Saint John and Saint Thomas. There is also a much smaller island called Water Island. All together, there are about 60 islands with a total surface area of 133.73 square miles, although most of the islands are uninhabited.
The four main islands of the US Virgin Islands are known to their residents by nicknames. These are ‘Twin City’ (St. Croix); ‘Rock City’ (St. Thomas); ‘Love City’ (St. John) and ‘Small City’ (Water Island) and their total population was 108,612 in the 2000 census.
Since the 1960′s, the islands turned their focus from agriculture to heavy industry and tourism and the US Virgin Islands are a very popular destination for American tourists and honeymooners. It is very easy for Americans to get there because a passport is not required, the islands are only 1,730 miles east south-east of Miami, the currency is the US dollar and everybody speaks English.
The islands enjoy an arid, pleasant climate. The average temperature in the capital, Charlotte Amelie, is 33c in the summer and 30c in the winter. September to November are the wettest months and February and March are the driest. The USVI are subject to hurricanes. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 was particularly devastating, but the islands were also hit in 1998, 1999 and 2008.
Tourism is the industry that most of the islanders are engaged in and about 2,000,000 people visit every year, many of them on cruise liners. St Thomas and St Croix are the best equipped to deal with tourists offering hotels and resorts along with lovely beaches and fine restaurants. Water sports are the main activity, although tourists can also hire horses or jeeps to discover the interior of the US Virgin Islands.

Cruz Bay Tourism
Cruz Bay has a distinctive atmosphere that sets it apart from other towns in the U.S. Virgin Islands. There is a perfect combination of West Indian tradition and contemporary attitudes.
The locals who live their permanently are supplemented by a cosmopolitan mix of predominantly European and American tourists, many of whom, attracted to the quietly exotic, yet comfortably familiar getaway, visit there annually.
It is the site of most of the Island’s restaurants, bars, stores and dive centers, and pretty much all visitors to St. Johns spend at least some time there. Yet, despite being the center of commerce for the Island, it is nearer to being quiet than it is to being busy.
The pace of life there is considerably slower than in a U.S. or European coastal town, and tourists cannot help but be influenced by the Cruz Bay vibe, making it easy to forget about work and the pressures of your day to day life.
The restaurants in Cruz Bay offer the very best in fine dining, and you can sample truly exquisite Caribbean cuisine at any of the many beachfront restaurants. There is a quite buzz about the nightlife, which creates a pleasant atmosphere for relaxing, talking and drinking.
If you fancy a day or two away from the multitude of beautiful, secluded beaches that are located just 5-20 minutes away from Cruz Bay, then you can hike through the Virgin Islands National Park, rent a jeep and ride around the Island, or browse the quaint shops that line the alleys and backstreets of the town.
You could also partake in some of the wide variety of water sports activities available. Scuba diving tours tours to offshore reefs are very popular, as are jet skiing and parasailing.
Whatever you choose to do with your days, you can be sure that the weather will not be a hindrance to you, as the weather in Cruz Bay ranges is nearly always excellent.

Are All Inclusive Vacation Packages A Good Idea?
Are you thinking of taking a vacation in the near future? How do you normally go? Do you fly there and then sort yourself out or do you take vacation packages? It is clear that vacation packages are simpler and usually cheaper too.
If you go DIY, you will have to book reservations on an airplane or a train and a hotel and taxis and a car hire company. If you would rather preclude all this, you could book either a vacation package of one of the all inclusive vacation packages.
Although many vacation packages are extremely good, some people refuse to use them. This can be for several reasons, but the most common are out of a of feelings of adventure, independence and snobbishness. In fact, most of the people who do not take vacation packages are younger, single individuals.
Married people with children are the main users of vacation packages and especially all inclusive vacation packages. There is a difference between the two kinds. All inclusive vacation packages are great for families with hungry children. You know, the normal variety, who are always saying: ‘Give me a dollar for an ice cream, Dad’ or ‘I’m hungry, Mum!’.
On an all inclusive vacation package, all of these snacks and three main meals a day and all drinks are included in the cost of the holiday – hence, the name, all inclusive vacation package.
However, there is more to it than that. All inclusives also include on site games and amusements and some others as well. For example, a Caribbean all inclusive vacation package might incorporate the use of snorkels and goggles, but it would rarely stretch to the use of scuba gear or wet suits.
Another advantage of the all inclusive holiday resort is that they often cater for families with young children. They might supply child alarms in the cabins and free entertainment for adult holiday makers in the evening and night too. The resort might also provide baby sitters and a free taxi into town.
All inclusive vacation packages are a very different deal from standard vacation or rental packages. All inclusives are more geared towards families with young children between, say five and fifteen, because children of this age eat a lot, although it is usually junk food, which typically costs a lot on holiday, but is in fact, cheap to produce. The evenings’ entertainment is also on site so that parents can be easily reached if there is a problem.
On the other hand a normal vacation package will usually provide breakfast only, so that you can go out for the day and do what you like.

The Charming Scenery Of St. Thomas
If you’re looking for a great tropical atmosphere to visit during the cold months of winter, think about traveling to St. Thomas. This is a beautiful island located in the Caribbean Sea, and there are many reasons that I love visiting this destination as often as I can.
These are just some of the numerous reasons why you might decide to plan a trip to St. Thomas.
The most beautiful beaches are located here. If you love a nice relaxing beach with actual blue water, then St. Thomas is where you should go. You will find a lot of smaller ones that are not as crowed and they will offer you all the relaxation you would like to have on a beach.
There’s also plenty of great food. There are many upscale restaurants on this island with talented chefs. If you enjoy eating gourmet foods and well prepared meals, then you’ll have a huge handful of different restaurants to choose from when visiting St. Thomas.
There is a nice blend of beaches and mountains due to the unique topography of this island. Now, you are not going to see, let’s say, the snow-capped mountains of the Rockies, but you will see some high points here with awesome views of the water.
Another convenient fact is that the native language on the island is English. It’s always easier to travel somewhere where you don’t have to communicate with people who speak a different language than you do. You’ll be happy to know that everyone there speaks perfect English.
People also enjoy the fact that they don’t need a passport to visit. Since St. Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands, this is truly an American destination. As a result, you won’t need any form of passport or international identification in order to travel there.
Something to keep in mind when you are visiting here is that if you rent a car, remember that the cars drive on the left side of the road. This, as well as the fact that there are some pretty steep hills on the roads, can make driving here a little difficult.
