San Elijo Campground in North County San Diego is the perfect spot for families or travelers visiting San Diego who are on a budget or want to sleep in the ocean air.

Here is the price list: $35/inland site; $50/ocean site; $20 a day for electricity (not all sites have hookups); $12 a day for an additional car (yes a trailer is a car), showers $1 for 3 minutes. The campground fills up during summer, spring break and holidays, so reservations are required. Winter months are slower and the campground rarely fills up.
If you reserve your site online and want an inland spot, I recommend getting on in the middle as opposed to a spot against the fence. The back sites are closer to the highway and train tracks, so being in the middle helps to buffer the sound while giving you a more authentic camping experience.
Of the San Diego State Beach campgrounds, I believe San Elijo is the most social. There seems to be more kids and younger families as well as more people just hanging out by the barbecue.

Tent camping is definitely an activity my family continues to be involved with for many years. Our camping trips combine fishing, hiking, and swimming to the regular camp site lifetime of cutting wood, starting a fireplace, preparing food, cooking, eating, games, and just relaxing. We’ve designed a large amount of good memories from our camping trips. We’ve always gone up in high altitude and found great camping hiking spots either at designated campgrounds that offer water for washing, plus some kind of restroom (out house or rest-stop type), and garbage cans, or places where there have been no little luxuries at all. We always camped by streams, lakes, or rivers throughout the summertime.
