Music Festivals are hard to beat. No other place on earth can match the atmosphere created by tens of thousands of music fans joining up for a weekend of unhindered fun. If you’ve never been to a festival before then you definitely should think about going to one. With so many different events on offer, you’re sure to find one that suits your style and taste in music. If you’re not a huge music fan, a festival can still be great fun as they usually have plenty more to offer over and above the musical line-up.
The Bands
When marketing an event, the line-up is the main weapon in the promoters amour. For the price of one ticket, you’ll potentially get to see hundreds of bands spread over a few days. For this reason, event organizers try their hardest to put on the best selection of bands possible. Many different events specialize in one genre such as dance or rock music, whilst others tend to provide a general mixture of music. Try buying a music magazine or looking online and browsing the various event line-ups. With so many on offer you’re sure to find something that suits your tastes.
Other Entertainment
If you just sit in front of the bands all day, you’re probably not going to get the most out of the festival experience. Make sure you get out and explore the rest of the festival as there are many different things that you could find. Performing arts are usually a big part of any festival, so you might get to see some really interesting drama. Also, there are usually lots of different bars, and if you look hard enough you’re sure to find a really cool place to hang out and have a drink.
Camping
Camping at a festival is quite far removed from your traditional camping holiday. There’s a strong emphasis on fun and it’s highly likely that many of your neighbours will be throwing some pretty big parties. Noise can be quite an issue so you certainly should aim to get any decent sleep. Leave the thought of rest aside for a few days and get stuck into some hardcore partying. Just make sure you stay safe and keep your valuables close; if you do that you’ll be fine!
Night Time
Nightlife at a festival is basically amazing. After the bands finish, most stages will open up as discos or club nights and carry on long into the night. There’s usually something for everyone so take a good walk around and see what you can find. If you’re into your dance music then you’re sure to have a great time after dark at a festival; try going to a silent disco. That is possibly one of the funniest things you could ever see. You could also take a walk back to the campsites where there’s certainly going to be many a party to join.

The Interesting Lives of Some of History’s Greatest Painters – They Aren’t All as Normal as Van Gogh

We all know Van Gogh’s interesting life story — How he sold only one painting during his life, how he sliced off his own ear and sent it to a prostitute, how he took his own life in an asylum, yada yada — but here are a few more interesting tid-bits about Vincent and a few other famous artists you might not have heard before.
Vincent Van Gogh has three of the Top 10 most expensive painting ever sold — Irises (which sold for $49 Million and ranked #8), a self portrait ($65 Million and #4) and the Most Expensive Painting of All Time: a portrait of Doctor Gachet, which sold for a record smashing $82.5 Million in 1990!
Pablo Picasso has four painting on the Top 10 list — which sold for an average of $49 Million.
John James Audubon, famous painter of birds and namesake of the Audubon Society was a bit less than the nature lover that today’s environmentalists would have you believe. To paint his birds he first shot them and then wired up the dead bodies and put them on branches.
The most faked and forged artist of all time (next to Elvis) is the little-known-today, Camille Corot. Unusual for most artists, he was very popular in his lifetime and thus spawned 100 of imitators — many of which “imitated” his signature also. Not only this, but he was also known to sign the paintings done by his numerous pupils. Over 10,000 fakes have been recorded.
There once was a painter who earned the nickname “Putter on of Pants.” Daniele da Volterra was employed by the Pope Paul IV to cover up the naughty bits of nudes in renaissance paintings — including Michelangelo’s nudes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (since removed.)
Speaking of Michelangelo and naughty nudes, his painting, The Last Judgment, which he painted late in life when he was older and crankier, includes an ugly donkey-eared figure in the pits of hell (lower right corner if you are keeping score at home.) This is a likeness of Vatican official Biagio di Cesena, who earlier had criticized the painting’s “indecent” nudes. Michelangelo retaliated by painting Biagio’s face on the donkey-faced dude. Biagio begged Pope Paul to have Michelangelo remove it, but the pontiff replied that he “could intercede for those in purgatory but I have no power over those in hell.” I think I will write and article soon on funny things Popes say. Watch for it.
Michelangelo also painted his own face in The Last Judgment. It is in the wrinkled human skin in the hand of St. Bartholomew.
By the way – Yes, that was a joke in the title.

The Most Interesting NY Neighborhoods

Listing great things about Manhattan is the easiest thing in the world, there are so many of them. This vibrant, cosmopolitan city is loved by both those who live there and those who visit. A trip to New York is on everyone’s wish list.
I’ve done a great deal of exploring since I became a resident of Manhattan and the diverse people and places just blows me away. The only problem with New York is the sheer size of it; you never feel fully part of it, however hard you try.
Let’s leave the negatives behind and focus on the best that Manhattan has to offer. These are just a few of my personal recommendation for you to check out next time you come to take a bite out if the big apple.
I’ve tried out many places to eat and drink since I’ve been living here, and my favorites are in the eclectic East Village.
If you want to shop for clothes, grab a drink, or choose from a great variety of food styles, the East Village is the place for you. Geared towards the younger age group of twenties and thirties, this square mile is busy, vibrant and very cosmopolitan. The Lower East side borders it at the bottom and it’s very easy to cross from one to other without realising it.
Patrons with more maturity tend to congregate in the coffee bars that are set amongst the trees on the sidewalks of the West Village. Chic clothes boutiques attract a classy clientele, yet the area retains the vibrancy that New York is famous for.
If Bohemia isn’t your style and you want to spend some time at one with nature, then head for the Upper West Side. This area is home to the world famous Central Park, a beautiful place to relax for a few hours and watch the world go by.
