Pacific Rim National Park Reserve’s Long Beach is a striking sandy stretch of coastline surrounded by lush greenery and rocky headlands on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It lies along Wickanninish Bay between Tofino and Ucluelet.

This region was named for its 12-kilometre stretch of white surf-swept sand. Long Beach is the easy to get to and has the most developed components of the park. Long Beach also offers excellent beach hiking, headland hiking trails, nature programs, guided hikes, and group tours during the summer, and walk-in and drive-in campsites. Due to the way the beaches are situated at least one of them should have usable surf. That is the reason that this area has become such a popular destination for surfers.

It’s a tribute to the scale of this environment that so many travellers can be absorbed into it and still leave it appearing empty.

You can spend days walking these beaches and by that course of action discover why some folks spend their whole lives here. Radar Beach, Long Beach, Combers Beach, and Wickaninnish Beach run successively from north to south and stretch for 15.5 miles (25 km) between Cox and Quisitas Points. This area comprises the Long Beach Unit of beaches, and is the most visited portion of the park. Despite its popularity, Long Beach remains a magical place of sand and surf.

The Radar Beach area is rugged and is constantly being change by the surf. One needs to exercise great care on these beaches when dealing with the surf.

Depending on your arrival and the height of the swells coming in off the ocean not to mention the thickness of the mist, you could see surfers, sea kayakers, cyclists, kite flyers, hackey-sackers, frisbees, swimmers and joggers on the beach.

At the south and north end of Long Beach are four more equally beautiful sandy expanses, each with its own variation on the overall mood of isolation. Wreck Beach on Florencia Bay is one of them. It is 3 miles (5 km) long and lies south of the Long Beach Unit. It’s easily reached from Hwy 4, 3 miles (5 km) north of the Tofino-Ucluelet Junction. Turn west onto Long Beach Road, then south at the first fork.

If this is a day trip it is recommend that you head into the Long Beach area because it is the most assessable and has the longest beach!
